A Small Miracle

I WENT TO THE GYM TODAY!!

I let go of my fear of gym daycares. This has been the reason I have wasted away my gym membership. The thought of leaving Sophia in a germ pool with people who might neglect her makes me a little queasy. I know that they wouldn't actually neglect her but they may drop her or let her lay in a germy playpen or or or. See I have issues. I mentally prepared for the occasion by telling myself people do this all the time, I will be in the next room and she needs to be exposed to other kids. They aren't mean people they are people who like babies. She will be fine. And she was. Although the ladies watching the kids weren't the friendliest. They looked at me like I was a nutcase. I tried to be cool. It clearly didn't come across to them. They asked me if she liked playing in an excersaucer. I said oh yes she loves them. They wip out this germy crumb covered very well used excersaucer. It took all my will power not to wip out my spray sanitizer and clean the whole daycare. I kept telling myself some germs are good... builds her immunity. It was a big step for me today. Gone are my excuses of not going to the gym. I am excited and I hope I will make this a regular routine for us so Sophia can have a happy, healthy mommy who can keep up with her once she starts exploring the world by running.

I leave you with Lilly in a bowl. Completely unrelated to this post but funny none the less. If you recall an earlier post I wrote about Miss Lilly you may find this funny....

My Little Backyardigan

The snow has melted and the sun is shining! For now at least.

Today Sophia and I played outside in our backyard for the first time! It was such a nice time. We had gone to the movies earlier in the day with my mommy group and I was itching to get outside and enjoy the sunshine with Sophia!
She is so strong at sitting up now! She went from barely being able to hold herself up to full on no mommy support needed within a day. She is so darn cute sitting up like a big girl. She still face plants when she tries to reach for something way out of reach or tries to come get me.
I am so proud of my baby and I can't wait to enjoy more times in the backyard!!

Oh and here is the first time I captured Sophia sitting up on film. She is reading her little rubber ducky book....

Maryjane's We Love you!

Yesterday I went through Sophia's closet and dresser and pulled out all the clothes that no longer fit her. It was a little sad seeing all her itty bitty clothes being packed away. I have already gone through this process a few times so I should be used to the pangs of sadness.

I have this small fear that I will miss putting Sophia in some of her adorable outfits as she grows. So I assess her wardrobe monthly to make sure we aren't forgetting anything. When I was pregnant I knew I was having a little girl. So I bought a few ensembles for my future baby. Today Sophia wore one of these outfits. She looked so adorable I think I took about 500 pictures of her. However with this particular outfit she has no shoes that match. Dilemma, dilemma! So after our photo shoot I made plans to go to the mall with my neighbor friend. We came upon the most adorable Maryjane's. I am a sucker for Maryjane's always have been. So today I bought Sophia a pair and two for me, oops!

The two I bought for myself are Crocs. I think they are so cute and so practical. The red ones are amazingly comfortable. Aren't Sophia's new shoes fantastically sweet!!

Posing in my red jacket and oh so sweet skirt but needing some shoes to match...

Mom I need new shoes....

Lilly thinks I need new shoes too...

After our shopping excursion I showed daddy my purchase!

Yay for shopping trips! I also found some great sales on summer clothes for her. I need to win the lottery asap!!

The Highly Anticipated....

HIGHCHAIR!!

Here it is folks we finally got a highchair!

I found a dark wood highchair that matched our other furniture. It happens to be Eddie Bauer brand (in honor of my parents). I searched many stores for this perfect highchair! Obsessive much?

Here is Sophia at 6am sitting in her new highchair about to enjoy some rice cereal and prunes, too much information? Never.

See how it matches our table perfectly...

New Milestone Reached!!

Amongst our busy day today Sophia sat up all by herself!! I am so proud of my little munchkin. Sophia is a little behind in the mobility department. So today when she sat up with no support on multiple occasions my heart swelled with pride. Since Sophia should only be 4.5 months she is a little behind on the 6 month landmarks. I always have to remind myself to not get worried or compare Sophia to other 6 month olds. I always wonder though "Am I doing things right? Am I not teaching her what to do ". I know I am doing everything I can to help her develop those motor skills. So today was a big day for us and my heart is still swollen with pride!

Today my friend and her 6 month old son came over to have a play date. She is the friend I met at my mommy and me group who happens to live right behind us. We have hung out so much lately and it is has been so great. We are a bad influence on each other though. We both are shopaholics. We might have a problem on our hands. Today though we were good girls and stayed indoors and had coffee and watched Juno. Our babies nap at the same time. It works out perfectly! 10 minutes after they left Gina and Sam came over to play. I made my speciality of chicken adobo for dinner (the one Filipino dish I have mastered). Sara also came to dinner and we celebrated all of our birthdays together. I forgot to mention Chris' birthday was yesterday and Gina's is on Sunday. I also made a chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting. Deadly. I am making Chris take the rest to work with him tomorrow to avoid a mid afternoon binge on my part. Anyways yadda yadda yadda am i done talking yet?? We had a lovely full day and I am thankful for my little world.

Here are a few photos taken today of all the goings on.

Sophia and Alex hanging out. He is two weeks older than Sophia.

P.S. Sophia wears bibs now during the day because she drools like crazy and I am sick of soaking wet shirts (it really ruins her cute outfits however)....

Big boy Sam standing in Sophia's excersaucer....

I forgot to mention the cutest thing Sam and Sophia had their first bath together AWE!

We're Baaack!

We had a great little visit to Kimberley! Lola Joy and Grampa Joe LOVED being with Sophia! Sophia did great with the travels. I sat in the back and played with her when she was awake to keep her happy. Our drive there was looong. We had to detour since one of the mountain passes was closed due to the crappy, snowy weather!! The drive home was far easier! The weather cooperated and the roads were clear the whole way home..hooray! It was a great visit. It seemed to go by so fast since two of the three days were spent in the car!

Are you ready for a ton of pictures? Enjoy!

Happy Birthday To Me!!

I am 29 today!!!

The last year in my twenties! Crazy! I feel like I JUST turned 20. I'm sure I will be saying the same thing when I turn 50 and 60 and 70!

28 was a fantastic, wonderful year for me. It was the year I was blessed with the best gift in the world... little Sophia! My whole life I wanted to be a mom. When I was little I was the girl who day dreamed of having babies and being a mom. My dream never changed. Now I am living my dream and am so thankful and happy!

The moment I became a mom.... (wish I was wearing makeup for the moment, ha)

Wish us luck on our first road trip today!!!!

First Road Trip!!

We are heading out tomorrow morning to visit Sophia's Lola and Lolo. In the Philippines Lola means Grandma and Lolo means Grampa. Chris' mom is Filipino. His dad is Scottish...so I guess we can call him Grampa. Sophia's heritage is a VERY mixed bag! She has Italian, Spanish, German, Filipino and Scottish all mixed in there! Anywho they are so excited to see her. They have not seen Sophia since she was two weeks old!! Lola Joy always sticks pictures of Sophia on her fridge and talks with her as she goes about her day, awe sweeet!

It is about a 5 hour drive (maybe it's 4...I forget). I'm sure it will take longer anyways as I think we will make a couple stops along the way to get fresh air and get Sophia out of her carseat. It is a beautiful drive to Kimberly BC. Full of trees and mountains and greenery that we don't get to see living in flat land no tree Calgary. I have a tradition of spotting every waterfall as we drive by them. I have done this since I was a kid with my sisters. It gets very old very fast for Chris. I still get a kick out of it. I will teach Sophia on our way. Even though she is only 6 months and is facing the back of the car. It is never to young to instill traditions, hehe!

I am packing today and feel like I just need to shake our house upside down and have everything land in a magical bag like Mary Poppins. Babies need so much stuff and so do I!

Wish us luck on our first road trip. It has been snowing something fierce all day today. Gulp. That's okay Chris and I drove from Vancouver to Calgary in the dead of winter with an over packed car and a cat (who was traumatized for life) when we moved here and we survived. This drive is much easier. Plus I have an understanding with my Matrix she takes good care of us!!

Here are some photos of Lola Joy and Grampa Joe the one and only time they met Sophia...

My Little Escape Artist

Chris and I have had an ongoing battle about highchairs. I know what a thing to battle about. He wanted to just buy a portable plastic mini seat that attaches to your chair. I think those are great for travelling but for everyday use I think it is impractical for our life. Our table chairs are very low. I would have to bend down to feed Sophia. Once she gets older she would never reach the table. We would see the top of her cute lil head only. So for a few weeks we have butted heads on the topic. Finally he decided he would venture out to look at what our options were. Once he realized the errors of his ways (haha) he chose THE MOST expensive model! I am not complaining one bit! However they only had a maple colored wood and our table is a dark wood. So now my job is to find the same highchair but in an 'espresso' finish. Hopefully this is possible, if not we will have an un-matching highchair and kitchen table..oh the horrors! Kidding.

This is why we need a highchair...

(Don't you just love her little elbows? umm and her knees and hands and legs and feet)

Busted trying to escape...

Immunizations - Neccesary Evil

So yesterday Sophia went for her 6 month immunizations. She was such a good girl. She cried after the initial pokes but recovered quickly. The nurse told us Sophia's weight and height was in the 50th percentile for her adjusted age of 4.5 months. She said she is just right... not too chubby not too skinny. Wish I could say the same about myself. Anyway while we were there the nurse asked me when I last had a tetanus shot. I had no idea. I guess we get them in grade 9 and need them every 10 years. News to me. So off she went to get me a dose of the vaccination..eek! So Sophia and I were comrades in the shots department yesterday. I only had one shot she had two. Anyways this morning she woke up sooo cranky and crying and was inconsolable. Meanwhile my left arm was so stiff and sore. My poor baby has two sore legs. Yesterday I put her in her jumper so she could get movement in her legs since that helps from getting sore. I guess it wasn't enough. She won't even jump on my lap like she usually does when held upright...poor baby!! It has been a long day for us. I am hoping she has a good nights sleep and her legs start to feel better tomorrow.

On a brighter note Sophia has done something I am so pleased about. She now can put herself to sleep in her crib. Usually I hold her until she is deep asleep and carefully transfer her to her crib. She tends to wake up from the transition and I have to sooth her back to sleep. But she now lays down drowsy but still awake and will put her self to sleep..YAY! This is a big thing for us. I gave her a little brown bear the other day (we call him Buster). She loves to snuggle him close to her face. I think all she needed was to feel like she had someone to hold onto and isn't alone in her big crib...so sweet!! So proud of my baby!

Here is Sophia with Buster...

Chris Update!!

Chris finished his last radiation treatment on Wednesday! Hooray!
He is happy to be finished. He did so well during the process. Never complained. He is a little more tired than his usual self but that is about it. It will take a month or so for him to be back to normal and regain his energy level. He will meet with his radiosurgeon on May 20th for a follow up. That is all we know for now. I'm sure he will have other appointments but we don't know when and what they will be. So thankful it is over and that he did so well!

On Monday Sophia and I went and watched Chris receive his radiation. The technicians were so nice and explained how it worked and what was going on (I nodded and pretended I knew what they were talking about). It really is amazing and baffling what technology can do. Sophia was a hit with the technicians. They went gaga over her. Pretty cool how a little baby can brighten people's day!

They let Chris keep his mask he wore while receiving his treatments. Chris thinks it is very cool. I think it's a little bit scary!!

Do not be afraid it's only Chris....

6 Month - Well Baby Check Up

Sophia will be 6 months on April 13Th! This sorta fweaks my mind. How has 6 months already gone by?? Everyone always tells you "enjoy every moment it goes by so fast", I was always like yeah yeah. BUT it is SO true!! It has been half a year and it feels like it's gone by in a blink. I do try and absorb and enjoy every moment and every stage Sophia is in. She is in a really fun stage right now. She talks and giggles and has so many expressions. She is always wanting to grab, touch, lick and investigate everything. I call her my little cookoo bird. She is hilarious at times.

Sophia had her well baby check up on Monday. She is doing fantastic. My Dr. is always so impressed at how strong Sophia is for being born 6 weeks early. Her adjusted age is 4.5 months but she is pretty much on target with 6 month olds developmentally.

She weighs 14lbs. and 4oz. She is a little peanut but a strong peanut. She is being a cookoo bird as we speak in her jolly jumper.

I did an impromptu self portrait of Sophia and I a few minutes ago. Trying to get her to look at the camera was a challenge....

Cause Your My Best Friend

Sophia is starting to notice Lilly and is captivated by her. Sophia will stop whatever she is doing and watch Lilly. Lilly usually leaves the scene rather quickly before Sophia can get a hold of her. Today Lilly was so sweet. Lilly let Sophia sit right next to her and grab and 'pet' her. It was adorable. Sophia was so excited. Lilly just layed there and purred. It is a start to a beautiful relationship....or the start of Sophia pulling and chasing after Lilly. Either way I loved it!

Sophia not to sure what to think at first....
